  • 1 lb lean ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (made from about 2 lbs of potatoes)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onions and carrots in olive oil until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add ground meat; cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, and peas; simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, boil peeled potatoes until fork-tender; drain and mash with butter and cream until smooth.
  6. Layer the meat mixture in a baking dish; spread mashed potatoes on top, creating ridges with a fork for crispiness.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
