  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp dried dill or thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil a large pot of salted water. Carefully blanch cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs. Mix well.
  3. Place about 2 tablespoons of filling onto each softened cabbage leaf. Roll tightly and tuck in sides.
  4. Spread half of the tomato sauce in a baking dish. Layer rolls seam-side down and cover with remaining sauce.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; uncover for the last 15 minutes.
