  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • ½ cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and herbs until just combined. Form into golf ball-sized meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear meatballs until browned on all sides (3-4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté diced onions until translucent. Add canned tomatoes and sugar; simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Return meatballs to the sauce and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  5. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain and reserve some pasta water.
  6. Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce, garnished with extra Parmesan and basil if desired.
