  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter with both sugars until fluffy. Add egg, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and food coloring; mix until combined.
  4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture without overmixing.
  5. Scoop tablespoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheets about two inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and centers look slightly underbaked. Cool on sheets for five minutes before transferring to wire racks.
