Boston cream pie is a delightful dessert that layers soft sponge cake with rich custard and glossy chocolate ganache. This classic treat is perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or any occasion that calls for a sweet indulgence.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing in vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the butter mixture alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown; cool completely before removing from pans.
  7. For custard: whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, egg yolks, and vanilla over medium heat until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  8. For ganache: melt heavy cream and chocolate chips over low heat until smooth.
  9. Assemble layers with custard between cakes and top with ganache.
