  • 1 lb ground beef or sausage (lean)
  • 24 oz marinara sauce (no added sugars)
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese (whole milk)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente; drain.
  3. In a skillet, brown ground meat over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with salt and pepper.
  6. Layer half of the spaghetti in a baking dish, followed by half of the meat sauce and dollops of ricotta. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses; cover with foil.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes covered, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving; garnish with fresh basil if desired.
