Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 medium tart apples (peeled and diced)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt; add melted butter and the yeast mixture to form a sticky dough.
  3. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  5. Peel and dice apples. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. Punch down risen dough and roll into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread softened butter over it and sprinkle with the apple-cinnamon mixture.
  7. Roll the dough into a log shape, slice into equal pieces using dental floss or a sharp knife.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish; let rise for another 30 minutes before baking for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk for drizzling consistency; drizzle over warm rolls.
